SOA University Earned Credit (UEC)

The University Earned Credit (UEC) program allows university students to earn credit for the SOA exams. The University of Manitoba actuarial courses are recognized by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) to earn these credits. This will exempt students from having to write certain SOA exams in the traditional manner at testing centers.

Below is summarized information from the SOA website on details about how students can earn and submit credits for the exams. For more information, please click here.

How to Earn UEC Credits?

The following list shows which courses are required to be taken to receive credit for the respective SOA exam. The minimum raw score required for all courses listed for each exam is 75% in the course.

  • Exam FM: ACT 2120

  • Exam FAM: ACT 3130, ACT 3340, ACT 4020

  • Exam SRM: ACT 4010, ACT 4040

  • Exam ALTAM: ACT 3230

  • Exam ASTAM: ACT 3340, ACT 4030

Please note the following rules relating to these courses:

  • To earn credit for SOA exams that require more than one course, the student must meet or exceed 75% in all courses within a 2-year period.

  • Students are allowed to re-take a course to earn a higher grade for credit.

How to Claim UEC Credits?

Students must fill out the UEC Authorization Form, which will require an SOA login, and submit the form. Once the form is submitted, the student will receive a confirmation email from the SOA. Students must provide a copy of the confirmation email to the instructor of the course BEFORE the date of the final exam in the course. The confirmation email will not be accepted by the instructor if sent after the final exam, even if the 75% minimum raw score is achieved. For SOA exams with more than one course required, the exam credit will not be granted until this process is carried out for all courses required (following the rules noted above).
